Abstract
The main question that our group decided to focus on involved organic meat: what it is, whether organic meat is healthy or not, the differences between organic meat and non-organic meat. Our group decided to focus on organic meat because we had never heard of, or knew that organic meat was an actual reality. We had heard of organic vegetables and fruits, and after completing the Oral History portion of the project, we became more interested in whether or not organic foods are really as good, health wise, as people tend to make them out to be. Our interviewee for the Oral History was a vegetarian/vegan who doesn't eat meat- so this led us to become more interested in meat itself because if organic food (what we originally knew of) was supposed to be healthier than non-organic foods, then what about meat? Do the same concepts apply to meat or not? Is the definition of organic the same for fruits/vegetables as it is for meat? In order to look into organic meat, we looked online, through databases, journals, and books to try and find out as much as we could about organic meat.
Research
Afterword
Through our interview and research project, we've come to find that there is more to the food we eat than we originally thought. This includes what types of foods are actually out there, what's becoming more popular, and what may or may not be good for you. We interviewed someone with a different eating lifestyle and found that even though she eats differently for personal opinions, there are many ways in which people, including ourselves, do not look into what we actually eat and what those items are made out of. Our research paper helped us find that there is such a thing as organic meat, something we didn't know existed, what it is, and why we may or may not want to eat it. Through our findings, we determined that organic meat may or may not be better for you, there is a taste difference between organic and non-organic, and also a price difference between the two. This project has made us realize that we need to step outside of our normal eating habits, look into the food we eat, where it comes from, and force us to try new foods that we may have not considered trying before.
